Inspiration

Tidal power potentials need to be experienced to be understood!

After missing the beach at Plémont, Jersey, the Channel Islands between France and England several times, Aage Bjørn Andersen turned to reading the tidal tables – on his third attempt, he was successful and the beach could be appreciated!

The range of tide at this location is in excess of 13 meters on exceptional spring tides whilst a range of 10 – 12 meters is more common. The potential of the energy captured by cyclic tidal exchange seemed overwhelming – and inspired him to assess means of harvesting this.

On return from his vacation, the tidal opportunities were discussed with Dr. Jason Dale who was equally excited about the potential in taming the tides. Putting their heads together, literature was studied, ongoing activities on the topic were assessed and a conclusion was reached; We can do better….
